It’s no secret that I love turmeric. I use it in my Cheesy Veggie Tofu Scramble, Turmeric Persimmon Nice Cream, my go-to Cheese Sauce, Fully Loaded Vegan Mac n’ Cheez, and even a Turmeric Face & Tooth Mask. It’s such a powerful antioxidant that consuming turmeric on a daily basis can aide the recovery of brain function and neurodegenerative diseases like Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s, lower blood sugar, curb depression, prevent heart disease, and prevent & treat cancer. No wonder it’s known as “Holy Powder” 🙏

Enter Golden Turmeric Milk. This creamy yellow liquid is a great way to incorporate turmeric into your day, especially if you like warm, cozy drinks ☕️🍵

I actually posted a slightly embarrassing recipe for Turmeric Milk over two years ago. It was one of my first recipes, when I was still sometimes using my phone to take photos for the blog! I don’t know about you, but coffee plays a very important role in my life. Not only do I need a strong cup of coffee in the morning to complete my breakfast routine, but as a writer I often need the stimulation of coffee while I work, as well as the idea of a warm mug or cup next to me to facilitate the creative process. I try to stick with just 1-2 cups of coffee per day, and I’ve learned to substitute hot tea or other beverages so coffee overload isn’t affecting my sleep or giving me the jitters during the day.

Here enters the latest “fad” in the health foods world – Coconut Oil Supercharged  Coffee. It plays off the idea of the Bulletproof Coffee, where coffee is brewed and mixed in a blender with grass-fed butter to create a foamy latte that contains “healthy fats” for a mental and physical boost. Although grass-fed better may have it’s merits, especially compared to more generic butter, it’s still dairy – not ideal and not cruelty free. But some amazing person came up with the vegan version! Instead of butter, use plant-based fats from coconut oil. It doesn’t have any of the negative health effects of butter and it doesn’t involve using animals or animal product.

I made Coconut Oil Supercharged Coffee nearly every day this past fall and winter, and guess what? I didn’t get sick at all, other than a brief allergy stint upon moving from one region of Texas to another (climate changes tend to affect me like that). My rockin’ immune system was courtesy of the coconut oil, which is a natural anti-bacterial and antiseptic. It’s also loaded with healthy fats for your brain and it makes your coffee taste like a million times better! A foamy, dreamy latte you can make yourself with two ingredients.

5 little known health hacks

A line up of all my favorite health and beauty products☝️ 💯 🏆

Like, if I was on a deserted island and I could only bring 5 things with me, these would be them (except maybe the coconut products if there are coconuts on said deserted island 🌴 but even then I probably still would…)

You probably already know how healthy these items are – like the healing properties of turmeric when used as a spice, or replacing regular table salt with Himalayan pink salt, or that coconut oil is not only great for cooking but as a moisturizer too!

But these superfoods have other health benefits that you may not be aware of 💁so I have a list of my 5 favorite little known health hacks that are crazy easy to incorporate into your life.

Healing Tropical Turmeric Smoothie

This smoothie is my everything ✨

Not only does it contain plant based healing properties, but it’s refreshing and delicious, and the beautiful bright orange color doesn’t hurt either! Smoothies have become part of my daily diet and I feel like 5 million percent better than my pre-smoothie life. Humans are so used to eating processed foods, even the healthier versions of them, that sometimes eating basic raw fruits & vegetables can be a daily struggle. I know that even if I slip up and eat a whole bag of potato chips or something fried or containing gluten, I feel better knowing that smoothies got my back and I don’t have to have a meltdown because I ruined my day with junk food.

Enter the Healing Tropical Turmeric Smoothie. A coconut based smoothie with healing turmeric and ginger, banana and peaches for natural sweetness, and carrots for fiber and a pop of color.

Check out my very first recipe video for this easy to make smoothie! I’m sure there are tech savvy 10 year olds out there that could create a better video than this, but it was super fun to make and I’m sure my video skills will improve from here on out. Let me know what you think!

The weird winter weather of southeast Texas is here to stay, well, at least through February. It includes frigid nights mixed with sunny warm days and bouts of rain ❄️☀️☔️ I’ve been craving warm foods like soup, sweet potato fries, gnocchi, and hot tea. Lately I’ve been buying vegan ramen from the health foods store and adding in mushrooms, cabbage, broccoli, and tofu. It’s so delicious 🍜👅

But for those random winter days that end up feeling more like spring (my Texas peeps know ✊) here’s a frothy, creamy, java induced recipe that is served cold and is the closest thing to heaven 😇
