Creamy Vegan Coffee Milk

The weird winter weather of southeast Texas is here to stay, well, at least through February. It includes frigid nights mixed with sunny warm days and bouts of rain ❄️☀️☔️ I’ve been craving warm foods like soup, sweet potato fries, gnocchi, and hot tea. Lately I’ve been buying vegan ramen from the health foods store and adding in mushrooms, cabbage, broccoli, and tofu. It’s so delicious 🍜👅

But for those random winter days that end up feeling more like spring (my Texas peeps know ✊) here’s a frothy, creamy, java induced recipe that is served cold and is the closest thing to heaven 😇

Sweet Potato Fries with Magic Sauce

sweet potato fries with magic sauce

For the past several weeks I’ve basically been living off sweet potato fries and banana nice cream and I’m totally okay with that. Bananas and sweet potatoes are two of the most nutritious foods known to man 🍌 🍠 (and the fact that there’s even a sweet potato emoji pretty much sums it up, right?) and they’re dang delicious.

What’s even more applause worthy is that these sweet potato fries are filling enough to be an entire meal 👏 I make them for lunch or dinner and they are totally satisfying. I mean, crunchy and savory wedges with a hint of garlic and cumin, dipped in creamy, tangy magic sauce? 😍 Heart exploding.

I hope I never ever get tired of these fries because they should really be named Awesome Amazing Dynamite Sweet Potato Fries with Magically Powered Magic Sauce 💥 💥 💥 but that was too long for this blog post…

Fruity Liquid Gold

Today’s post is a quick and easy recipe for Fruity Liquid Gold! Okay, so technically it’s not gold colored, but it’s fruity and liquid and tastes soooo gold – I mean, good. It’s got a pink, orange, gold thing going on so we’ll make it work. This beautifully colored drink is part smoothie, part juice, part tropical heaven. It’s full of nutrients that will give you glowing skin and you can add whatever else you would like to it. Then fill up the kiddie pool, put on your sunglasses, and imagine you’re on a tropical island faraway.

Before we get to the recipe though, can I just give a belated shoutout to Women’s Equality Day & National Dog Day?! I think it’s no coincidence that these two great specimens are honored on the same day. Clearly, both are amazing, although I might be a little biased? Either way, August 26 is seriously making it’s way to the top of my favorite day of the year list, which includes competition such as Halloween and my birthday, so that’s saying a lot.

I think my best gal pal Josie fully embodies August 26 because, well, she’s a dog and a woman – she’s a dogwoman.

And she’s looks pretty darn happy about it.

Turmeric Milk

March 13, 2015 by Jillian Leave a Comment

turmeric milk

I’m crazy about this drink! If you want a delicious and healthy alternative to coffee, hot cocoa, or tea, then turmeric milk is your drink. It’s packed full of cancer fighting antioxidants but you don’t even notice because you’re too busy enjoying the creamy taste and the rich yellow color. Make this warm drink in the morning for a coffee substitute, as an afternoon pick-me-up, or in the evening when you’re winding down. I like to drink it mid-morning as a light snack or before bed with a piece of dark chocolate. You will fall in love with this easy to make drink.

Before we get started, I want to quickly go over the health benefits of Turmeric:

  • It fights inflammation, and since inflammation leads to diseases like cancer, Alzheimer’s, heart disease, and other chronic diseases, that’s pretty awesome.
  • It’s a powerful antioxidant that neutralizes free radicals (which also cause cancer).
  • It’s linked to improved brain function.
  • Can lower the risk of heart disease, prevent and treat Alzheimer’s, and alleviate arthritis.
  • Studies show that it may treat depression.
  • Turmeric benefits anti-aging.

These are just a few of the many benefits of using turmeric. If you don’t already have some lying around in your kitchen, go out and buy some and get busy using it!

I originally found the recipe for turmeric milk at Nutrition Stripped, which is a blog I highly recommend. It contains some great plant based recipes and resources for healthy living. I decided to make my own simplified version of this vegan drink. Here goes!
