“Spicy” Double Chocolate Chip Cookies

October 12, 2018 by Jillian Leave a Comment

Awhile back, like an entire year ago, RawSpiceBar sent me a free 3-pack of their spices. One of them was a packet called German Gingerbread, which contained a mixture of ginger, coriander, cinnamon, allspice, nutmeg, black peppercorns, cloves, mace, and star anise. I had been wanting to use the spices, and decided to add a little bit to my regular chocolate chip cookie recipe. I figured they would probably be delicious or disgusting.

Luckily, they turned out delicious! The Gingerbread Spices add a little kick to the traditional recipe, and also give them a warm, wintry, holiday feel. Not to mention, they have a soft, chewy texture with just a bit of crunch around the edges. If you want to try something different, these “Spicy” Double Chocolate Chip Cookies will do the trick! Oh, and they’re healthy!

German Sausage & Potato Skillet

Welcome to the final recipe of my RawSpiceBar recipe series! I may have saved the best for last, and I’m not saying that because it’s the recipe I created! If you’ve read the other recipes, you’ll remember one came from RawSpiceBar, one I modified from another food blogger and this one is created by moi! Looking at these photos right now as I work on this post is making me oh so hungry. I’m at the library eating donuts (true story) but I would much rather be eating this German Sausage & Potato Skillet! 🍽

This was my favorite RawSpiceBar combo -caraway, fennel and anise – and it went perfectly with the kielbasa sausage, smoky potatoes and crispy onions. This recipe is filling enough to be the main dish but not so overwhelming that it can’t be a side dish. It’s hearty and flavorful and super easy to whip up. It may be one of the easiest recipes I’ve ever posted. Check it out!

Horseradish & Mustard Cabbage

Hello 2017! 🎉💃 It’s been a good start to the year so far, and not just because I haven’t accidentally continued to write 2016 as the date. I think it’s going to be a really good year for me, and for you, too, I hope!

This is the second recipe in my RawSpiceBar series. Last week I shared my recipe for Gluten Free Potato Pancakes, they are seriously good and you can stock up on them and store them in the fridge. If you want a tasty side dish to pair with your crispy potato pancakes, try this recipe for Horseradish & Mustard Cabbage. Even though I love cabbage, I was a little skeptical at first because I’d never prepared it this way before and wasn’t sure if I was going to like it. The recipe comes straight from RawSpiceBar, and they did a great job because this dish came out super flavorful and savory!

I’m also a pretty big fan of both horseradish and mustard and the combo of the two. I used RawSpiceBar’s blend of horseradish and mustard seed, but you can also use these ingredients separately if you have them at home, or easily find them at the grocery store. Let’s get started!

Getting Spicy with RawSpiceBar!

December 22, 2016 by Jillian Leave a Comment

getting spicy with RawSpiceBar!

raw spice bar recipes

Imagine a world with no spices. What would food taste like with no salt? No cinnamon for cookies or cakes or coffee. What would Indian food be with no cumin? Or Italian food without basil, thyme and oregano? Throughout history, the spice trade has established vast empires and compelled explorers to travel across the globe. Today, countless beauty products and holistic medicines contain spices.

Needless to say, food and life in general  would be pretty bland without spices.

Enter RawSpiceBar. A company that uses high quality ingredients and careful techniques to deliver a unique trio of global spices straight to your door each month. For me personally, trying RawSpiceBar allowed me to get out of my spice rut and think outside the box. I tend to stick with the same handful of spices for all of my cooking and baking. But this reminded me that spices are vibrant, full of personality and can motivate creativity!
