German Sausage & Potato Skillet

January 14, 2017 by Jillian Leave a Comment

Welcome to the final recipe of my RawSpiceBar recipe series! I may have saved the best for last, and I’m not saying that because it’s the recipe I created! If you’ve read the other recipes, you’ll remember one came from RawSpiceBar, one I modified from another food blogger and this one is created by moi! Looking at these photos right now as I work on this post is making me oh so hungry. I’m at the library eating donuts (true story) but I would much rather be eating this German Sausage & Potato Skillet! 🍽

This was my favorite RawSpiceBar combo -caraway, fennel and anise – and it went perfectly with the kielbasa sausage, smoky potatoes and crispy onions. This recipe is filling enough to be the main dish but not so overwhelming that it can’t be a side dish. It’s hearty and flavorful and super easy to whip up. It may be one of the easiest recipes I’ve ever posted. Check it out!

Horseradish & Mustard Cabbage

Hello 2017! πŸŽ‰πŸ’ƒ It’s been a good start to the year so far, and not just because I haven’t accidentally continued to write 2016 as the date. I think it’s going to be a really good year for me, and for you, too, I hope!

This is the second recipe in my RawSpiceBar series. Last week I shared my recipe for Gluten Free Potato Pancakes, they are seriously good and you can stock up on them and store them in the fridge. If you want a tasty side dish to pair with your crispy potato pancakes, try this recipe for Horseradish & Mustard Cabbage. Even though I love cabbage, I was a little skeptical at first because I’d never prepared it this way before and wasn’t sure if I was going to like it. The recipe comes straight from RawSpiceBar, and they did a great job because this dish came out super flavorful and savory!

I’m also a pretty big fan of both horseradish and mustard and the combo of the two. I used RawSpiceBar’s blend of horseradish and mustard seed, but you can also use these ingredients separately if you have them at home, or easily find them at the grocery store. Let’s get started!

Gluten Free Potato Pancakes

December 30, 2016 by Jillian Leave a Comment

gluten free potato pancakes

vegan potato pancakes

This recipe makes me very happy for two reasons. One, it reminds me of making latkes with my family every year for Hanukkah. And two, I love potatoes to the point where I feel an intervention might be necessary. Really. Sometimes at night I like to recount what I ate over the course of the day to make sure I got enough nutrients, raw foods, greens, etc. There’s been several times where I realize I ate some form of potato basically the entire day. Whoops.

These vegan, gluten free pancakes are golden, crispy and – nope, that’s it. That’s all that matters. Golden, crispy potatoes. There’s a couple more days of Hanukkah left, so whether you celebrate it or not, you can still make these delicious latkes and give yourself the gift of healthy carbs πŸŽπŸ•Ž

I modified this recipe from It Doesn’t Taste Like Chicken to suit my own tastes as well as to be gluten free. It can be a main or side dish, breakfast, a snack, whatever you like! I also used my Schnitzel Spies from RawSpiceBar, which gives these pancakes a little extra kick of flavor!

9 Quick Tips to Beat Winter Sickness

9 quick tips to beat winter sickness

Nobody likes being sick. Well, there was a brief period of time as a child that I looked forward to staying home watching television all day when I had a cold or the flu. But now, getting sick is something that I dread and try to avoid at all costs πŸ˜·πŸ€’πŸŒ‘

Since I’ve gone vegan, I’ve noticed that I get sick way less. Pre-vegan I battled allergies/sinus/colds at least twice a year plus any other illnesses like the flu, 24 hour bugs, strep, bronchitis, etc. The only time I get sick now is seasonal allergies once or twice a year and if I take action as soon as I notice symptoms, it goes away a lot faster and isn’t as agonizing.

Whether you’re vegan or not, these 9 easy tips can make you feel better a lot faster. They will help you fight sickness in a much healthier, all natural way that your body will be thankful for. You can still incorporate your regular medicines if necessary. These suggestions will just boost your immune system for a speedier recovery this winter!
