Last month there were so many animal events going on in Austin that I could barely keep my head on straight! There were also a lot of vegan events, so as you can imagine, I felt like a kid on Christmas – if Christmas was in June and lasted the entire month.ย ๐๐
Since I’m really busy this week working on a film job, I thought I would just post some of my favorite pictures from a couple of those events. Scroll down to see cute pitties, delicious vegan food, and some of the fun happenings that make Austin such a cool city.
Weekly Reunion Rescue @ Spiderhouse
Reunion Rescue is a local pitbull rescue group and founder Cindy sets up camp at a popular coffeehouse near the University of Texas to educate people, get donations to help the dogs, and most importantly, get them adopted! On the particular day that I showed up, there were 3 adorable pitbulls with Cindy, all looking for their forever homes.
Meet Amber and her cute nose:
As you can see above, Amber was an abuse case and most likely had acid or something similar poured over her head. Yet when I met her, she was as sweet as could be and loves children!
And this is Vinny, he’s blind and precious.
And Cowboy (hiding under the table) with his dainty ‘lil paw ๐พ
3rd Friday @ Unity Vegan Kitchen
This was an event hosted by another local pitbull rescue group called Love-A-Bull. Their mission is to promote responsible guardianship and improve the image and lives of pit bull type dogs through community support, education, advocacy, & rescue. They have tons of adorable pitties looking for loving homes. 3rd Friday is one of their regular events and this one happened to take place at a vegan food trailer near downtown Austin.
That evening’s highlights included local vendors selling handcrafted items, a raffle drawing with cool prizes, and a pitbull kissing booth. When I arrived, Petey (the white dog pictured at the top of this post) was the lucky pooch getting to kiss all the ladies, and he did a very good job! ๐
Look at this cutie pie! She was in a Love-A-Bull foster home and they totally foster failed ๐
The Mobile Library showed up for a bit and there was also live music.
And of course, there was yummy vegan food courtesy of Unity Vegan Kitchen. Their special that evening was BBQ! Can you guess what the “meat” is made from?
It’s jackfruit! The potato salad and coleslaw were delish too.
Vegan Pizza Day
While we’re on the topic of food, I have to tell you about Capital City Bakery’s annual Vegan Pizza Day. I had never been before so I knew I needed to stop by. They’re normally known for their cupcakes, so naturally, I had to try that as well. They were almost sold out by the time I got there. All the flavors looked truly good, but I went with the PB&J Cupcake and a Pizza Roll. My goodness I was not disappointed! ๐
These are just 3 of the many events I attended in June. I love that Austin has so many great things going on that bring the rescue communities together with the vegan community. They complement each other very well and both groups can support and learn from one another. Can’t wait to see what other activities are in store for ATX!
