It’s August, which means we are right in the thick of summer ??

Aside from sun burns and global warming ? down here in South Texas we find relief from the blazin’ hot sun on the beaches of South Padre Island, eating some tasty raspas ? or indulging in locally grown watermelons. One of my other favorite go-to treats during warm weather days is banana nice cream. Actually, it’s usually a staple in my diet year round, but I particularly crave it right about this time of year. When I saw some juicy plums at the grocery store a couple of weeks back, I grabbed a few, figuring I’d find something to do with them. I wondered if adding them to nice cream would be weird or wonderful, so I did some googling and discovered it’s definitely doable!

Plum Banana Nice Cream is basically the easiest recipe in the world, so give it a try. It’s creamy and sweet, but kinda tart, and you can add whatever creative toppings you like. Best part is, you get 3 servings of raw fruit with one bowl of nice cream, and it tastes like dessert! Golden Turmeric Milk

It’s no secret that I love turmeric. I use it in my Cheesy Veggie Tofu Scramble, Turmeric Persimmon Nice Cream, my go-to Cheese Sauce, Fully Loaded Vegan Mac n’ Cheez, and even a Turmeric Face & Tooth Mask. It’s such a powerful antioxidant that consuming turmeric on a daily basis can aide the recovery of brain function and neurodegenerative diseases like Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s, lower blood sugar, curb depression, prevent heart disease, and prevent & treat cancer. No wonder it’s known as “Holy Powder” ?

Enter Golden Turmeric Milk. This creamy yellow liquid is a great way to incorporate turmeric into your day, especially if you like warm, cozy drinks ☕️?

I actually posted a slightly embarrassing recipe for Turmeric Milk over two years ago. It was one of my first recipes, when I was still sometimes using my phone to take photos for the blog! I don’t know about you, but coffee plays a very important role in my life. Not only do I need a strong cup of coffee in the morning to complete my breakfast routine, but as a writer I often need the stimulation of coffee while I work, as well as the idea of a warm mug or cup next to me to facilitate the creative process. I try to stick with just 1-2 cups of coffee per day, and I’ve learned to substitute hot tea or other beverages so coffee overload isn’t affecting my sleep or giving me the jitters during the day.

Here enters the latest “fad” in the health foods world – Coconut Oil Supercharged  Coffee. It plays off the idea of the Bulletproof Coffee, where coffee is brewed and mixed in a blender with grass-fed butter to create a foamy latte that contains “healthy fats” for a mental and physical boost. Although grass-fed better may have it’s merits, especially compared to more generic butter, it’s still dairy – not ideal and not cruelty free. But some amazing person came up with the vegan version! Instead of butter, use plant-based fats from coconut oil. It doesn’t have any of the negative health effects of butter and it doesn’t involve using animals or animal product.

I made Coconut Oil Supercharged Coffee nearly every day this past fall and winter, and guess what? I didn’t get sick at all, other than a brief allergy stint upon moving from one region of Texas to another (climate changes tend to affect me like that). My rockin’ immune system was courtesy of the coconut oil, which is a natural anti-bacterial and antiseptic. It’s also loaded with healthy fats for your brain and it makes your coffee taste like a million times better! A foamy, dreamy latte you can make yourself with two ingredients.

Vegan Vanilla Whipped Cream

To all the whipped cream lovers out there, no need to ever consume dairy whipped again or buy super expensive vegan whipped cream at a health foods store! Whipped cream made from coconut milk in a can has solved all these problems and more. Plus, I find it to be even more delicious than dairy whipped cream, which is so basic now ?

I mean, why consume a saturated fat-filled product made from a milk designed for calves, when you can eat healthy fats from coconuts and get flavor + nutrients? It’s a no brainer to me!

Watch the video below for the crazy simple recipe and then slather your homemade whipped cream on anything and everything you want. I’ve used it in the morning as a topping on oatmeal, chocolate chia seed pudding, and even coffee. I’ve also used it to top baked goods, banana nice cream, and even my black teas ☕️ Basically, it’s amazing on everything!

Once you make this vegan vanilla whipped cream, you’ll always want to have a fresh batch in your fridge and you won’t want to go back to regular ‘ol dairy.

German Sausage & Potato Skillet

Welcome to the final recipe of my RawSpiceBar recipe series! I may have saved the best for last, and I’m not saying that because it’s the recipe I created! If you’ve read the other recipes, you’ll remember one came from RawSpiceBar, one I modified from another food blogger and this one is created by moi! Looking at these photos right now as I work on this post is making me oh so hungry. I’m at the library eating donuts (true story) but I would much rather be eating this German Sausage & Potato Skillet! ?

This was my favorite RawSpiceBar combo -caraway, fennel and anise – and it went perfectly with the kielbasa sausage, smoky potatoes and crispy onions. This recipe is filling enough to be the main dish but not so overwhelming that it can’t be a side dish. It’s hearty and flavorful and super easy to whip up. It may be one of the easiest recipes I’ve ever posted. Check it out!
